A One-in-a-Million Café Manager for Our Thriving Independent Coffee Shop in Saffron Walden

This isn’t just another café job.
This is a rare opportunity to take the reins of something already great — and make it even better.

BRONTE is an independent, much-loved coffee shop and bakery nestled in the heart of Saffron Walden. We’re well known for our use of local produce — including Wood St Coffee, The Loaf Tin pastries, and our own in-house baked goods made by Bronte herself.

We opened our doors in 2024, and we are extremely proud of the space we’ve created. But we’re not resting on our laurels. We’re looking for a passionate, driven, hospitality-loving unicorn in a field of horses to lead our café into its next chapter.

The Role:

Full-Time Café Manager
Location: Saffron Walden
Salary: £13–£18 per hour (depending on experience)
Start date: As soon as we find you

What We’re Looking For:

 Hospitality experience.
You’ve worked in customer-facing roles and know how to deliver service that makes people feel seen, welcomed, and cared for.

 Passion for beverages.
A love for crafting high-quality drinks — and a desire to share that enthusiasm with both customers and your team.

 Leadership energy.
You’ve got what it takes to manage a small team, hire great people, keep morale high, and lead by example — with integrity, kindness, and ambition.

 Vision.
You’ve got ideas — for events, community engagement, seasonal menus, and ways to make the café a true destination. You're not afraid to experiment and you take pride in building something meaningful.

 Obsessive about the details.
Clean counters. Smooth service. Smiling faces. You notice what others don’t — and you take action.

 Heart and hustle.
You want this café to be a reflection of your best work — somewhere you’re genuinely proud to call your own.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Managing the day-to-day café operations with grace and grit

  • Delivering consistently excellent coffee

  • Leading and mentoring the front-of-house team

  • Working closely with the shop owners to keep everything running smoothly

  • Planning events, pop-ups, and community happenings

  • Keeping standards sky-high — from flat whites to floorboards

Why Work With Us?

Because you’ll be trusted to make your mark.
We’re independently owned, growing, and full of heart — no corporate nonsense. You’ll have the freedom to shape the space, the team, and the future.

We’ve built a beautiful foundation — we just need the right person to drive it forward.

Barista

The Role:

Full-Time or Part-Time Barista
Location: Saffron Walden
Pay: £11.50–£13.50 per hour (depending on experience)
Start date: As soon as we find you

What We’re Looking For:

 Barista or hospitality experience
You’ve worked in a customer-facing role, ideally with coffee, and you know how to make people feel welcome.

 Love of coffee
You’re excited by the art of making a perfect flat white — and keen to keep learning and improving.

 Great with people
Friendly, reliable, and positive — you bring good energy to every shift.

 Team player
You know that great service comes from working together, pitching in, and keeping standards high.

 Pride in your work
From latte art to a spotless counter, you care about the details that make the café experience special.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Crafting consistently excellent coffee and drinks

  • Delivering warm, genuine service to every customer

  • Supporting the team and keeping things running smoothly

  • Helping maintain the space so it always looks and feels welcoming

Event Staff

We’re looking for enthusiastic baristas to join our coffee truck team near Takeley (close to Stansted Airport) for long days throughout October, with pay based on experience. Candidates must have access to their own transport and be able to reliably drive to our location. There will also be opportunities to pick up additional shifts throughout the remainder of the year and into next year, as our trucks continue to get busier.

Key Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with coffee machines (previous barista or hospitality experience preferred).

  • Ability to work long shifts and support team members across tasks.

  • Must be able to drive and have access to transport to and from Takeley (near Stansted Airport).

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Commitment to cleanliness and safety standards in all work areas.

  • Flexibility, reliability, and a positive attitude during busy periods—with ongoing shifts available as our business grows.

If this sounds like the right fit, we’d love to hear from passionate candidates ready to deliver great coffee and friendly service outdoors, both this October and as more opportunities arise.
